Jonty Burton animation callout
Our most dapper screen content creator is going to compile a panoramic piece for the Horse Bazaar from bits of sketches that people send in. We will give drink cards (with 4 drinks each) to the first 5 people that send in images
Dear gentle reader,
Messer Jontyburton invites you to take a step back from your computer and join him in an analogue interactive visual experiment. You will need no keyboard, mouse or wacom to join in, nor an internet connection. You will however require a pen, a piece of paper, an envelope and a stamp.
We believe it is time to liberate the postal system from phone bills, political advertising, and hardware catalogues. We instead offer it as the exchange of ideas and considered correspondence it once was.
Draw a character, scene or picture, using any form of ink on any form of paper. Then send it to Mr Jontyburton c/- Horse Bazaar 397 Lt Lonsdale St VIC 3000, by June 29. Work will be scanned, arranged and animated by Mr Jontyburton for display at the Horse over July. Subject matter of the image is at the sole discretion of the drawer, however we appreciate images of objects
and people that existed before the Apple IIe came in and spoiled everything.
Your most humble and obedient servant,
Mr Jontyburton

Tough young Jenny (Hannah Herzsprung, in a meteoric debut peformance) is serving time for brutally murdering a man when she was only a teenager. Now regarded by everyone as a violent and unpredictable danger, she was once a child piano prodigy before her fall from grace. She meets her match in elderly Traude (Monica Bleibtreu), a Prussian woman who has been teaching piano to the inmates since World War II. When Traude brings a new concert piano into the prison and realizes Jenny's talent, she enters her in a national contenst...a disasterous chain of events follow and everything hangs in the balance when the details of both Jenny and Traude's pasts threaten to be revealed.
Director Chris Kraus's script is packed with drama, thrills and explosive and lurid secrets, not to mention characters that clash with the force of a powder keg. From the barbarous environment of the prison - where not a soul can be trusted - to the glow of a refined concert hall, Jenny has only the four minutes of her performance to achieve redemption.
FOUR MINUTES opens on 28 June

--Fifth Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition--
A passionate group of dedicated, fresh and talented pianists, violinists and cellists from all over the world are coming to Melbourne to compete in the Fifth Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition to be held during 7 to 15 July, 2007.
Sixteen of the best piano trios and string quartets from the USA, the UK, France, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Denmark, Canada and Australia have been hand picked to perform here in Melbourne for the competition. Chamber music is traditionally written for instrumental ensembles without a conductor such as trios and quartets with one player for each part. String quartets include first and second violin, viola and violoncello, while piano trios comprise of violin, violoncello and piano.
In this competition no conductor is driving the performance therefore the musicians need to engage in their own musical dialogue and share it with the audience. Performers rely solely on their collective musical intuition, experience and talent on the day. Perfect timing, tone and musicality are achieved through careful listening, collaboration as well as outstanding team work and technique.
This competition is considered the richest of its kind with generous prize money and recording and touring opportunities such as the Primus Telecom Grand Prize and the Musica Viva Australia Special Prize.
The International Chamber Music Competitions are only held every four years and are always hosted in Melbourne.
Concert Series:
Rounds one and two - Australian National Academy of Music, South Melbourne Town Hall
Saturday July 7 to Friday July 13.
Chamber Music in the City
Saturday July 14
Finals - the Arts Centre, Hamer Hall, 100 St Kilda Road, Melbourne
Sunday July 15
